A Gothic Protagonist

In the novel ‘Frankenstein’ by Mary Shelley, The Gothic protagonist is Victor Frankenstein, He is a has experienced hardships and struggles but he also had a god complex. When Victor has he his god complex he creates life itself, and in this line where Victor says “One man’s life or death were but a small price to pay for the acquirement of knowledge which I sought” which means that he (Victor) wants to acquire the power to create life or death. An in this time period (1700s) the person that could create life and death was God, meaning that he wanted to be like god himself. Another line that shows the god complex is “It was the secrets of heaven and earth that I desired to learn” which means that Victor wanted the same power as god even at a younger stage in his life. The quote I used before was after the death of his mother, this was a huge incident in his life which would or could have driven him to create the creature, but that the second quote is from chapter 3, meaning that he had a god complex at a young age.
